Professor Reid is truly a man for all seasons. His early enthusiasm, intense training and athletic abilities allowed him to succeed in many sports particularly track and field, soccer and weight-lifting, up to and including national level competition. This abiding interest led him to select a career, which combined exercise, sport, rehabilitation, medicine and surgery.

Professor Reid graduated from the Prince of Wales Hospital - London, England in 1963, with a Diploma in Physiotherapy. Subsequently he obtained a Teacher's Diploma in Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto where he graduated with honours. He studied at the University of Alberta, gaining both a Baccalaureate Degree and a Doctor of Medicine with Distinction. Professor Reid has served as a visiting professor, and is in demand as a teacher in many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.  His research areas include functional outcomes of anterior cruciate surgery, surgical techniques for management of posterior cruciate ligament injury, rehabilitation of shoulder problems and the effect of modalities on the healing response of tissues.

Dr. Reid's clinical practice revolves around a special interest in knee surgery and rehabilitation but his most significant contributions and energy are directed towards teaching, particularly in the clinical setting.

Currently, with his wife and nurse, Kaye, and their five children, a new interest is emerging in thoroughbred horses. The possibility of applying established principles of exercise physiology and injury rehabilitation to the racehorse provides a challenge for the future.
