> Dr. John Cinats
John Cinats attended the University of Alberta starting in 1974 in the Faculty of Science. He started medical school at the University in 1976 and obtained his M.D. in 1980. He completed a 2 year family practice residency at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton and obtained his certificate from the College of Family Medicine of Canada in 1982.
Dr. Cinats then started his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Alberta in 1982 and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 1986. He then moved to Toronto where he did a Sports Medicine Fellowship from 1987-1989 with Dr. Robert Jackson. During that time he also completed a Masters of Science Degree at the University of Toronto. His thesis was “The Calibration of a spatial linkage electrogoniometer.”
Dr. Cinats started his practice in Edmonton in 1989 and became Site Leader of Orthopaedics at the University of Alberta Hospital in 1996. He then became Section Head of Orthopaedics for the Capital Health Region in Edmonton in 1998 and held that position until 2005. Dr. Cinats was an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons from 1996-2000.
He was Chair of the Rural Orthopaedic Service Delivery Committee for Alberta Bone & Joint Health Institute from 2003 to 2004.
Dr. Cinats has been a member of the Steering Committee from 2003 to present for the Alberta Bone & Joint Institute.
He was involved in the planning of the new pathway for healthcare delivery for hip and knee arthroplasty in Alberta. He was then one of the five surgeons involved in the implementation of the Pilot Project for hip and knee arthroplasty.
Dr. Cinats is an active participant in the orthopaedic academic community, involved in multiple ongoing research projects as principal or co-investigator.
