Dr. Wesner is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan (1994). Upon completion of her medical degree, she undertook residency training at the U of S in Orthopedics and then Family Medicine. In 1999 she completed a clinical fellowship in Sport Medicine and in 2000 completed a research fellowship in Sport Medicine. She holds a Master's degree in Sport Psychology. Her research interest in the psychology of injury. Dr. Wesner has been a member of staff at the Glen Sather Sport Medicine Clinic since 2000.

Dr. Wesner's sport medicine practice encompasses all levels of athletes and play, from the weekend-warrior to the elite and Olympic athlete, as well as pediatric to the geriatric athlete. She was the team physician for the national women's hockey team from 2000-2006. She is also the team physician for the national figure skating team since 2004, as well as the team physician for the University of Alberta Bears hockey team since 1998. Dr. Wesner has been part of Team Canada at 7 major games, including the FISU games, Pan American Games and the Winter Olympics. She is a member of the CanadianCollege of Family Physicians, and holds a diploma in sport medicine from the CanadianAcademy of Sport Medicine. Dr. Wesner is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
