Shelby Karpman, MHA, MD, CCFP
Family Physician
Diploma of Sport Medicine (CASM)
Dr. Shelby Karpman is a Family Physician with a special interest in Sport Medicine. He received his Master’s in Health Administration from the University of Ottawa in 1982 and followed it up with his MD from University of Alberta in 1987. After completing his Residency in Family Practice he did a Fellowship in Sport Medicine at the Glen Sather Clinic. He successfully completed his Diploma in Sport Medicine in 1991. He was honored as a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2002.
Dr. Karpman’s practice combines Family Medicine with Sport Medicine and Pain Management. Aside from his work as a Primary Care Consultant at the Glen Sather Clinic, he has a community based Family Practice and also serves as a Musculoskeletal Assessment Consultant at the HealthPointe Clinic in Edmonton. He also works part-time for Carnival Cruise Lines as a Ship’s Physician.
Dr. Karpman has served as a Team Physician form numerous sports teams over the years. He presently works with Athletics and Wrestling both at the Varsity and National levels. He also serves as the Team Physician for the Edmonton Oil Kings Hockey Club and the Edmonton Rush Lacrosse Team.
Dr. Karpman is also very involved with the Alberta Medical Association having represented Edmonton on various provincial committees and presently serves as the president of the Section of Sports Medicine.
