Jim Toller, C.O.(c) FCBC Orthotist Appointments 780-492-4752
The title “Certified Orthotist” (C.O. ©) is awarded by the Canadian Board of Certification of Prothetists and Orthotists. There are two clinical schools in Canada in which students train for two years in both Prosthetics and Orthotics and receive a Diploma in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Once they have completed the schooling, a two-year internship period in Prosthetics or Orthotics is required under a Certified practitioner in the discipline of their choice. When the internship period is completed the intern is required to successfully complete the certification exam before they are awarded their “Certification” in that discipline. There are approximately 400 practicing “Certified Prosthetists and Orthotists” in Canada.
Jim Toller is a “Certified Orthotist” (C.O. ©) with Orthotic Solutions who provides orthotic services for patients at Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic. He has 23 years of experience as an Orthotist and has been affiliated with the Clinic for nine years. One half day a week Jim sees patients at the Clinic where he is able to consult closely with the physiotherapists and medical staff at the Clinic who have referred the patients. Referrals are also made to his private office by the Clinic staff and a collaborative treatment plan is worked out when needed. Jim has practiced in sports medicine since 1987 and provides a wide variety of custom and off-the-shelf orthoses for a wide range of patient needs(ie shoulder orthosis, knee orthosis, foot orthotics, wrist-hand orthosis). Along with his extensive experience he is involved in many sports himself, which allows him further insight into patient needs. All custom orthoses are made from a cast model or an elaborate system of measurements. Most of the orthosis are fabricated at Orthotic Solutions facility in Edmonton. Each patient attending the half-day clinic or the office will have a thorough assessment performed prior to any orthotic treatment commencing. The close working relationship between Jim and the other Clinic professionals ensures that each patient receives optimal treatment.
