FELLOWSHIP TRAINING IN PRIMARY CARE SPORT MEDICINE
The University of Alberta Glen Sather Sport Medicine Clinic offers fellowship training in primary care sport medicine. We have the ability to accommodate 2 fellows each year. This is a funded, 1-year program, beginning in July of each year. If the fellow chooses, the Fellowship may be extended to accommodate completion of a Master’s Degree Program at the University of Alberta. The fellow will gain extensive clinical experience through one-on-one teaching with the primary care sport medicine physicians and the orthopaedic surgeons in the clinic. The Fellow provides the primary surgical assistance to Dr. David C. Reid, thus allowing the Fellow to view the surgical pathology of the clinical problems seen during the fellowship year. The Fellow is given a graded responsibility for the care of the University of Alberta varsity team athletes, and will take an active role as the team physician for the Golden Bears Hockey Team.
The Fellowship places emphasis on the development of sound clinical judgment and treatment skills for the primary care physician. Research is considered an important part of the education of a sport medicine physician, and the fellow is expected to conduct a research project during the year. At the conclusion of the fellowship, the fellow is eligible to sit the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine Diploma in Sport Medicine Examination.
For more information on the Fellowship Program at the Glen Sather Sports Medicine Clinic, contact Dr. Connie Lebrun, Clinical Director, at: clebrun@sports.ualberta.ca .
